Endangered species like the swamp partridge and Bengal florican can also be found here. The Koshi Barge, an important resting place for migratory birds, adds to the rich avian diversity.

Not only birds, but Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is also home to a diverse range of mammals. Visitors may encounter hog deer, spotted deer, wild boar, and blue bulls during their exploration. The reserve is particularly renowned for being the last refuge of the wild buffalo, known as arna.

The Koshi River flowing through the reserve is inhabited by some remarkable aquatic species. The endangered Gharial crocodile and the rare Gangetic dolphin have been recorded in these waters, adding to the ecological significance of the area.

The vegetation of the reserve mainly consists of tall khar-pater grasslands, interspersed with patches of khair-sissoo scrub forest and deciduous mixed riverine forest. This unique blend of habitats provides a diverse range of ecosystems, supporting a wide array of wildlife.
